Planters Shelves Are Evil

I have said it before and I will say it again these
Are evil...

They give you that false since of security that you can put all
kinds of goodies up there and all will be well.

Not the case my friends. All your items will turn into a sticky, greasy, dusty mess.

I told myself last year when I did my yearly cleaning that I would start cleaning all of this once a month so it would not get bad.

Well.....
Yeah that plan utterly failed. But I did find after scrubbing til my hands were wrinkled and I could still see goop that hot water and baking soda works wonders.

Happy Birthday To My Little Man

My baby boy becomes a preteen today.  Seems like just yesterday we were anticipating him being born.

I am so blessed to be his Mom and so proud of him.

Crazy Cat

Found her in my Bub's bathtub examining the drip that hubs still has not fixed. She is obsessed with water.  Unless it is time for a bath then she hates that it exists ;)

Mid Week Update

Just a update on the stray ie: Matt
He is doing much better and is very happy his rash is gone

Ginger is chomping at the bit to meet him, but one eyed dog + big dog = scared mommy
(Truthfully he is a gentle giant and I don't think would hurt a fly.  He plays well with other dogs in the neighborhood.)
She keeps her eye on him though ;)

And when she is not she assumes her usual position.

Tilda has been on a bit of high alert, but she is even getting used to "Matt".  She lays in the window and just watches him.  (no pictures of that yet.)

All in all we are having a good week.  Bub is enjoying playing with the big dog until he finds a forever home and "Matt" in enjoying laying in the shade on our picnic table ;)

Even Brad has enjoyed playing ball with him

Weekly Wrap-Up

weekly wrap-up 3

Well the week started off with my Hubby’s birthday.

We got him a Grill he has been wanting.

While we were putting it together this little guy showed up

IMG_2891

IMG_2894

Hubby finished up the grill while I looked for his owner by car and on foot.

IMG_2897

I figured it was raining and he was scared so no biggie he could stay a while and when it stopped raining his owner would be looking for him.

IMG_2898

Yeah I was way wrong on that one.

After calling every vet in the county the next day, all the shelters, getting him scanned for a chip, putting an ad on Craig’s list and putting signs up at the local store I got….

Nadda, Zip, Zilch, Nothing

IMG_2899

Look at this face.  I mean HELLO wouldn’t you miss him if he was gone.

Ughhh I felt so bad for him.  So I gave him a bath, de-fleaed the poor baby and waited to see if maybe just by chance I would get something on craig’s list by the end of the week.

Nope all we got was a nice rash on this poor little man who my son has now named “Matt”. (Why Matt who knows…I was thinking Buddy, Rex, Mac, Dino Dog, Godzilla, but no Matt)

Awesome.

So now he is on Benedryl per the vet and we are hoping for the best.

Bavarian Meatballs

Bavarian Meatballs

They don't look as appetizing as they actually were.
Nothing every looks right in the slow cooker.
Face Palm

That goes with this → Slow Cooker Bavarian Meatball Sandwich, but I was so

I did not get a picture of the actual sandwich..

French Bread

I made the easiest and best French bread loaf last night. Thanks to this awesome recipe by Liz Langston

I cut the recipe in 1/2 since I only needed one loaf. I also added garlic powder and mozzarella cheese before I rolled it up to make it a garlic cheese loaf.

 It was fantastic.

Excuse the condition of my pan.  It's a oldie but a goody that I stole borrowed from my Mom a long time ago...

Here is the recipe I cut in half to make one loaf
Ingredients
·         1 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
·         1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
·         1 cups water
·         3 cups bread flour
·         1/2 tablespoon salt
·         1/2 tablespoon white sugar
·         2 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
·         1 tablespoons cornmeal (I did not have any so I just dusted the pan with flour)
·         1 egg white, beaten
·         1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Directions
1.     In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
2.     In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with 1 cups water, 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, sugar and vegetable oil; stir well to combine. Stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
3.     Divide dough half. Roll each half into a 9 x 12 rectangle and roll up jelly roll style, starting at long edge. Seal edges and place seam side down on a large baking sheet that has been sprinkled with cornmeal.
4.     Use a sharp knife to slash each loaf diagonally 3 times. Brush with beaten egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cover and allow to rise 30 minutes (I was so excited I forgot this step and it still turned out great). Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
5.     Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes (Mine only took 25 minutes), or until golden brown.
