Orange you glad I blogged today

ahahahahaha I crack myself up…..anywho………..

I need some insight or rather help (….no comments from the peanut gallery I know I need help in general but this is different)

Here is my dilemma, during the big Freeze 2009-2010 we were ill-prepared for what to do with our Orange Trees and now the leaves are all wilted.

I picked off all the Oranges today, some were okay while others were a gushy mushy mess.

So here is my question, will my trees be okay, do we need to trim them back ???

I am perplexed.  I might have a mini meltdown if they die.  Ya’ll saw what happened to my basil plant (if not go here Bloggography) and I am still highly irritated with myself that I forgot to bring it in.

So….Greg, I mean anyone who can help, Greg…..

Oh and Greg if you so happen to read this I need to know what to do with the lilies now that they are all wilted.  Do they need to be cut back ??

  4. Hmmm what we have here is not good. LOL First off the good news. The lilies you can just trim to the ground and they will regrow as soon as the ground gets warm. The orange trees may be another story. I think, (notice I said think) that you need to trim them back a bit but I am awaiting conformation on that from someone who knows for sure. I wish I had a straight answer right now but I haven't grown citrus trees in years because they usually freeze here. I am starting a lemon and a lime right now though but I am going to keep them in pots so they can come inside.

  6. I am back with your answer and here it is. Right now don't do anything. If the freeze wasn't too bad the tree will just lose its leaves and be replaced with new ones. You won't know how badly it was damaged until the new growth starts coming in. Once that starts, cut the tree back to the new growth. Give it a little time for all the new growth to start. So if leaves come out on the end of the branches then you need to do nothing. However if leaves only come out halfway out the branches cut it back to there leaving the new growth on the end. (don't cut off the new leaves) If any limb doesn't produce new leaves then cut it off totally. If you cut off any large limbs make sure and seal them with a tree sealant. Good luck. Now for my fee....send oranges but not those frozen ones, haha.
